Spring Aluminum Landing Gear is normally mounted on the fuselage
structure with a shackle-type clamping system as shown in the diagram to the right. With heavy loading or hard landings, the gear strut legs deflect upward and the center section of the gear deflects downward. If the gear is attached rigidly to the fuselage and not allowed to deflect, the deflecting gear will transmit torsional loads to the fuselage which can cause stress failures in the aircraft structure. To prevent this from happening, radius plates or radius blocks should be installed as illustrated in the illustration to the right. These plates, or blocks, allow the gear to deflect without placing a torsional load on the fuselage as shown in the far right illustration. |
Radius Plates Radius plates are designed to eliminate torsional loads on the fuselage as the landing gear deflects. Material: 7075-T6 aluminum Dimensions: 1-1/2"x7"x1/4" P/N 6300 Price: $24.00 Each |
Installation: Trim the length to fit within the existing mounting brackets. Drill holes to match existing attach bolts, and install as illustrated above. It is important to reinstall existing lower steel plate (or bracket) under the lower radius plate for proper support. Longer attach bolts will normally be required. Typical installation requires four plates. |
